The worksheets in the BAH workbooks differ from most other worksheets in that they don't have any written instructions for the children who work out for themselves what to do. Usually written instructions are difficult for the student to read or comprehend and need the teacher to explain, which defeats the object somewhat. Any instructions you see are mainly for new teachers who may not be familiar with workbooks. The worksheets are very child-centered and although primarily designed for homework they are also ideal for use in class when you need to slow the class down a little and consolidate or work with children individual.

These worksheets have been designed to support and consolidate the materials and skills found in New Finding Out (NFO) 1 and 2 by David Paul; CW1 covers units 1 through 9, CW2, units 10 through 15 of NFO1 and CW3 covers the phonics found in NFO 2, they also cover all the phonics found in Think Read Write (TRW) 1 and 2 by Eric Kane. Each book: 80 B5 pages. To get the best use out the workbooks, I recommend teaching blending and segmenting from the very start and to continue teaching it right through the books. The order of introduction in CW1 and 2, matches NFO, so if a worksheet has in its title "FO1/11", it suggests that the earliest possible time that this worksheet can be used is from unit 11 of NFO1. The decision of when best to use the workbooks will be your own teaching style and the age and the ability of your students; you can start using them before, alongside, after, for use as review, or independently of NFO. It is best to introduce and use some of the worksheets in the classroom and after students grasp what to do, they can then safely be given as homework or classwork.
