The students get to know the main character, Sparky, throughout the book, and learn English with him. The philosophy of the book is that English is learned by actively doing, so is designed to get students speaking as much as possible, often in pairs. Students may enjoy drawing, so there are several drawing exercises as well, that lead into conversation exercises.
