A Single Step to English Communication uses student selected content based on conversation topics chosen by Japanese university students. It includes realistic conversations using more than 25 different voice actors offering a wide variety of World Englishes.
The focus of the speaking activities is on skills that empower students to interact with restaurant servers and store clerks and negotiate for meaning when they do not understand. It puts the “A” in active learning. Beyond its focus on speaking and listening, students learn important cultural points and pragmatics that will help them travel and better function in English speaking countries.

For each unit, there are QR codes with YouTube video links (channel name is Single Step English) printed on the pages so students can review key vocabulary, phrases, and dialogs. A Single Step to English Communication also utilizes augmented reality (AR) for extension activities and end of the chapter vocabulary quizzes.
