Zooish Instructions
1. Shuffle and deal cards face down:
2 players - deal 7 cards each
3-4 players - deal 5 cards each
2. Players (being careful not to allow other players to see their cards) matches as many animal pairs as possible from their hand. Then players place each pair face up on the table in front of them.
If a player has three cards of the same animal, he can put down only two of them to make a pair.
3. The dealer begins play by asking other players for a card that matches a animal card held in his hand. The dealer must have in his hand a card of the same kind of animal he asked for.
4. If any player has that card, the player must give the card to the dealer who now has a pair and places the pair face up on the table.
If the player does not have the animal card asked for, the player tells the dealer, “no.”
The dealer then draws a card from the deck and if he can make a pair, lays it down on the table. If the dealer cannot make a pair, he keeps the card in his hand.
If a player has a word card, he can play that card after asking for any animal card.
(Using reverse card: when a player uses a ‘reverse card’, he plays again and the direction of the game is reversed.)
5. The play then passes on to the player on the dealer’s left who does the same thing.
6. When the deck is finished, players continue by asking in turn for cards until out of cards. This ends the game. Or if a player uses all of his cards, deal 3 more cards. Game ends when all of the pairs are completed.
7. Score: Players count the total points on each pair of cards. The player with the most points wins the game.
8. Speaking hints: players asking for animals may use these phrases: “I like rice.” “Do you like birds?” “Do they like birds?” “Do you have bird?”
Additional Games
Tic-tac-toe:
Make a 4-by-4 grid of each animal card facing up. The object of the game is to score the most points.
Player A reads any animal card and places his chip on that animal.
Player B repeats same steps.
The key object is to place three or four chips in a straight line.
Three chips in a straight line equals one point.
Four chips in a straight line equals two points.
Player can put their chips on any animal that is not claimed.
When all the animals are covered, game is over.
Game hints (1);
make a 4-by-4 grid but have the animal cards turned over. If the player can read the animal, he can put a chip on that animal.
If not, turn the card back over.
Hint (2);
use easier animals for beginners by putting more than one of each animal in the grid.
Match & slap:
Pass out one set of each animal faced down. No looking at the cards. On the count of three ( 1-2-3 ) each player turns over one card in the center of the table.
If the same animal appears, the first player to slap those animals is the winner.
Game is over when all the animal pairs are matched. The player with the most pairs is the winner.
Concentration:
Use only one pair of each animal. Put all the cards face down. In order, each student turns over two cards, if a matched pair, the student keeps the pair ( student should read the pair aloud ).
If the pair doesn’t match, the student turns the cards face down again and the next student tries to match two animal cards.
